Port of Montreal Strike Notice – July 24

Dear Valued Customer,

We hope that you are healthy and safe, please take a moment to read the latest notification for the Port Of Montreal Strike.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 375, representing longshoremen working at the Port of Montreal, has given a 72-hour strike notification to the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) on Friday July 24th, 2020. The strike is being carried out as part of the negotiations for the renewal of the longshoremen’s collective agreement with the Port and will start on Monday July 27th at 7 am and will end on Friday the 31st of July at 6:59 am. All terminals at the Port of Montreal will be impacted by this strike.

During this time, the Port of Montreal and the three container terminals and Termont will be closed with plans to resume its operations on Saturday, July 31 at 7:00 am.

MGTP has agreed to extend terminal storage free time from Monday, July 27 through Sunday, August 2. Vessel cutoff and Earliest Received Dates will be adjusted as needed. For reefer cargo, the reefer monitoring charges will still apply for any reefer containers remaining at the terminal on Monday morning.

Both terminal operators have confirmed that truck gates will close tonight, July 24 at 11:00 pm. MGTP gates will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26. Termont gates will be open on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Please make necessary adjustments for delivery or pickup of cargoes. For more information, please contact The Port of Montreal.

If your cargo is being received in at an inland location to load outbound via the Port of Montreal, we would encourage you to have your truckers contact the respective local rail ramp in the event there are questions in regards to whether any existing rail reservations have been adjusted.

Port of Montreal Strike Notice – July 28

The Maritime Employers Association (MEA) received today, Tuesday July 28th, 2020, a notice to strike from the Port of Montreal Checkers union’s executive committee. The expected strike will commence on Friday July 31, 2020 at 05.59 AM and will end on Saturday August 1st 2020 6:59 AM. During this period, the checkers will be on legal strike. Incidentally, the Longshoremen’s Union strike at the Port of Montreal is scheduled to end on July 31st at 6:59 AM.
