ILA Members Prepare for Strike on October 1st, 2024
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) longshore workers are prepared to strike against the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) on October 1st, 2024 at 12:01AM EDT, if they do not reach an agreement on their Master Contract negotiations to be compensated at wage levels they believe to be commensurate to the company’s growth and profits. Since both parties filed their respective Notices to Mediation Agencies (Form F-7) to Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS) late August 2024, USMX claims that the ILA leadership is unwilling/unable to secure a meeting with them to continue negotiations. Hence, the possibility of a strike is still very high at this time.
Impact
- CN Rail Intermodal has stopped all intermodal rail from Toronto, ON, Montreal, QC, Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL, and Memphis, TN to U.S. East Coast Ports
- All carriers have stopped accepting any bookings that has routing with rail to U.S. East Coast Ports
- All imports coming to/through U.S. East Coast ports might experience delays. Please have all customs documentation and arrangements secured for smooth and efficient import process as much as possible to minimize further delays
